The Minervois is known for its many pretty villages, some of which are classified as Les Plus Beaux Villages, or the most beautiful villages of France. Typical Minervois villages are built from ancient sun-baked stone, soft creamy yellow in colour, with narrow winding streets.
The Minervois is a land of vineyards and agriculture, with splendid landscapes, beautiful villages and small towns dotted along the Canal du Midi.Tourism is of utmost importance for the Minervois and the region offers much to attract visitors. Within close proximity you will find stunning sights, lovely rolling countryside and access to the Mediterranean coast with it's superb seafood and wide beaches.
The Minervois is a beautiful area of the South of France a land of heaths, mountains and vineyards spanning the departments of the Aude and the the Hérault in Languedoc-Roussillon.
There are 75 communes (villages or small towns) in the Minervois region making it the smallest administrative region of France.
The history of the Minervois goes back a long way. First mentions of its name date from early in the ninth century when reference is made to some lands being "in territorio Narbonense, suburbio Minerbense".
